What this unit is

The KILLETTE DSP forges cabinet impulse responses (IRs) — the “speaker cab” half of a guitar tone. An IR is a short WAV file that captures how a cab colors sound. Load the exported WAV into any IR loader (ReaVerb, cab sim plugin, amp sim IR slot) in REAPER and your amp signal gets this cab’s character.

How to operate

1. Hit PREVIEW RIFF — a heavy chug/tremolo riff plays through your current IR so you hear it, not guess it.

2. Twist knobs while it plays. The sound changes live.

3. Flip IR: ON/OFF to A/B the raw amp against your cab.

4. Forge Slot 1 or load WAV IRs into any of the four slots. Set their levels, mute or solo them, then hit GENERATE MIX and EXPORT WAV.

The rack stores loaded IRs in this browser and exports the active blend as a mono 24-bit WAV at the browser audio device’s sample rate (48kHz before audio starts).

5. Name and Save tones. They sync to your other devices automatically when the link light is on; otherwise use an IR5 Tone Code — it carries knob state, slot levels, mute/solo, polarity, alignment mode, and external-IR dependency notes.

Live guitar in

Hit 🎸 GUITAR IN and allow mic access when the browser asks. Your live signal (interface input or mic) now runs through the unit — twist knobs and hear your actual guitar change in real time. The input is DC-blocked and trimmed so it drives the gain stages properly, and it fades in/out — no pops.

GTR AMP: ON = your signal goes through the built-in swamp gain chain, then the cab. OFF = your signal goes clean straight into the cab — use this when you’re already running your own amp sim into the interface.

Headphones are mandatory. Speakers + open mic = feedback squeal. Expect a little latency — this is for dialing the cab in, not tracking.

Safety mute

Hit 🔇 SAFETY MUTE before plugging or unplugging anything. It uses a fast safety ramp at the final output so cable pops are suppressed without adding a click of its own. The unit also auto-mutes itself if it detects an input device change or the cable gets pulled while live — tap the button to unmute when you’re re-plugged.

Reading the scopes

IMPULSE RESPONSE scope shows the whole IR head to tail: the spike at the left is the direct hit, the shape after it is the cab ring, and the fade to the right edge is your tail. Watch it move as you turn Decay, Tail, Damping, Attack, Mic Dist.

OUTPUT SPECTRUM is a live frequency readout of whatever’s playing (riff or guitar), lows on the left. Watch Scoop carve the mids, Tight clean the bottom, Hi Cut drop the right side.

Knob guide

RESONANCEBody of the cab. Higher = more boxy honk and cab “bark”.
DECAYHow long the cab rings. Short = tight and dry. Long = roomy, bigger low end.
BODYLow-mid cab modes (150–330Hz). More = thicker, woodier box. Baked into the IR.
TAILDiffuse late bloom after the initial hit — sludgy room hang. Baked into the IR.
LOW FREQLow-end weight around 80Hz. The rumble knob.
PRESENCEUpper-mid bite, 2–3kHz. Cuts through a mix; too much gets harsh.
ATTACKHow fast the cab speaks. Low = instant snap for tight chugs. High = softer bloom.
DAMPINGKills the tail. Higher = tighter, drier, more controlled.
TIGHTLow cut baked into the IR (20–250Hz). Raise it to clean up flub under drop tunings.
MIC DISTPulls the mic off the cone. Close = bright and direct. Far = softer highs, more room feel. Baked into the exported IR.
HI CUTShaves cab fizz above the set frequency. Baked into the exported IR.
SCOOPMid notch at 500Hz baked into the IR — the classic metal scoop, up to −9dB.
DRIVEDistortion amount in the built-in amp. Preview only — not in the IR.
GTR TRIMInput boost for your live guitar into the amp path. Set it so your playing hits as hard as the riff. Preview only.
MASTERPreview output level only. Not baked into the exported IR.
TEMPOPreview riff speed (BPM). Not part of the IR either.

Knob controls

Drag up/down (or scroll wheel on desktop) = turn the knob. Double-tap = cycle knob size. Double-tap + hold = colour wheel for that knob. Sizes and colours sync too.

Workflow tip

The preview riff is a stand-in, not your guitar. Final check: export the WAV, load it in REAPER against your real DIs.
